Fair enough. I’ve not given away 100s of different types of free gift to test what kind of free gift will yield the best response. Who will have such experience anyway?

The first column shows you the position of the gift. Page 1 means the gift is found on page 1.

For your info, each page has 10 gifts. Interestingly, only 5 gifts in page 1 make it to the top 20 downloads. This says something……

Ok, let’s look at the top 2 gifts. Both of them receives more than 1000 signups. One is on page 1 and the other one is on page 2. There is no surprise that gifts on page 1 and 2 receive more signups. But these two gifts receive double the signups compared to other gifts on the same page!

So, what’s common in these two gifts?

The answer is they are both software. One helps you to manage and organize projects and the other one helps you to create ebook covers.

Do you get the hint? Software is a good product to give away to build your list!

The 3rd gift with the most signup also outperforms the rest with close to 1000 signups. The 4th position is 300 signups away! So it’s worthwhile to look at what this gift is all about.

The 3rd gift is a video tutorial teaching you how to set up your own wordpress blog. This means video is another good product to give away. But there is more……

There are many other video products in this giveaway. But this video product attracts more attention because it teaches people how to set up money making blogs. This implies that making money from blogs is a hot topic that many people are interested to know.

The last interesting thing I want to share with you is the 17th and 19th best-performing gifts (I’ve highlighted them in yellow). One is found on page 23 and the other one is found on page 30. If gifts on page 23 and 30 can make it to the top 20, there must be a reason.

Just look at the title of these 2 gifts and you should know the answer. That’s right. Both of them are PLR or MRR products. Not just that. They are PLR and MRR products with high perceived value. One gives away 20+ PLR products whereas the other one gives away 50 MRR products.

This is another lesson you can learn. If you are currently giving away one PLR product to build your list, why not give away 20? You can probably double or triple your current response!

Let’s do a quick summary of what we’ve learnt from this:

1) Software is always a good giveaway product due to its high perceived value.

2) Video is also another good giveaway product with high perceived value.

3) How to make money from blog is a hot topic with huge demand!

4) Don’t just give away 1 or 2 PLR or MRR products. To dramatically improve the response, give away 20 - 50 PLR and/or MRR products.

Today I’m going to share with you 5 useful and free tools (software) that I use very often when running my online businesses.

1) PDF Creator

If you have been thinking of creating your own PDF ebooks, yet you do not want to buy the expensive Adobe PDF writer, I have a solution.

A free software I’ve been using for a long time is CutePDF. It’s free and very easy to use. Just install and print any page or document into a PDF file.

2) Screen Shot Software

Getting a screen shot of your desktop is very useful when you want to add some useful graphics to your ebook, instruction manual or in your sales letter.

I’ve tried numerous screen shot software but frankly, none of them compares to this free version.

Most screen shot software are complicated and they offer too many features that you don’t need. But
Screen Shot 1.0 gives me exactly what I need. It’s easy to use and it works fast.

3) Multi-purpose Text Editor

This software is not for everyone. But if you are an experienced ‘hands-on’ internet marketer, you will appreciate this software.

Have you ever experienced a situation where you have to change just 1 word in ALL your html files? You open as many windows as possible and try to repeat the change at top speed, only to realize that you still make mistakes along the way.

What if there is a software that allows you to open unlimited number of text files, including your html files, php files etc, and you can replace a word or sentence across all the opened files at the same time?

This is just one of the many advantages of Notepad ++.

With Notepad ++, you can also view 1 file in two different windows. This is very useful for debugging purpose.

Another feature that I like is its color distinction for different syntaxes and codes. If you know a little about html, php or asp, this software can be your best editor.

Basically, if you ever need to perform any text editing, I can’t recommend any editor other than Notepad ++.

4) Audio Editor

Nowadays MP3 recorder is very common. You can easily record your own voice or an interview session. The problem is how are you going to edit the recording?

There are some expensive software out there. Yet again, I’m using a free audio editor that is superbly easy to use, very reliable and it produces top quality audio files.

The audio editor I’m talking about is Audacity.

You can edit most of the popular audio formats with Audacity. But if you need to export the edited file in MP3 format, you will need to install an extra plugin. I suggest if you want to install Audacity, install the MP3 plugin too because you will definitely need it one day. The detailed instruction to install the plugin can be found at

5) English Dictionary!

Please, don’t laugh at me. English is not my mother tongue and to make sure that I’m using the right word most of the time when writing a blog or newsletter, I need to use a dictionary.

Online dictionary is too slow and one needs to be online to use it. What I’m using is WordWeb. It’s free and it’s easy to
use.

I have it automatically turn on whenever I start my computer and I set up Ctrl-Z as the hotkey. Whenever I need to check the meaning of a word, all I have to do is highlight the word and press “Ctrl Z”. It’s that simple.

Besides the meaning of the word, WordWeb also gives you the synonyms. Whenever I can’t think of an appropriate word to use, I’ll enter something close and see if I can find a better word in the list of synonyms.

Stephen Covey’s Time Management Matrix

The best and simplest time management system I’ve learnt is Time Management Matrix from Stephen Covey. His matrix looks like this:

Apparently if you spend all your time doing things in Quadrant III and IV, you will realize that you are not progressing anywhere.Most people, good employees especially, focus on things in Quadrant I. In the eyes of their boss, they may be a good worker. If you are like most people, you probably spend most of your time doing things in this Quadrant. The problem is there is a limit to what you can achieve.According to Stephen Covey, highly effective and successful people spend most of their time in Quadrant II.Many of you probably have seen this matrix. Ok, let’s twist this matrix a little and apply it to internet marketing.
.Time Management Matrix For Online Marketers

This is the matrix I’m using to manage my work and time (I save it in MS Word so that I can add, edit and delete the activities anytime):

The difference in my matrix is I’ve changed Important / Not Important to Money Making / Not Money Making.Let me tell you why I come out with this matrix to manage my time……I have been following Stephen Covey’s Matrix but after some time, I realized that I was efficient but my income wasn’t increasing.I found out that the reason was because I had been working hard doing things that were important but not money-making. For example, customer support is important and urgent. But in many cases, they are not money-making. With this matrix, I can now classify my work according to its urgency and profitability. All I have to do now is to make sure that I spend most of my time doing things in Quadrant I and II.
.How I Handle The Tasks In Different Quadrant

Another difference in my matrix is the way I handle the tasks.

Quadrant I and III are urgent matters. For such tasks, I’ll make sure that I get them done within the shortest possible time. The way to achieve this is by focusing. Let’s say you have to build a simple website. Just dedicate 2 or 3 hours and put in your 100% concentration to complete it asap. Don’t answer phone calls, check emails or do anything else.

Quadrant IV are things that you should avoid. Either you get someone else to do them, or you just dedicate the most unproductive hours to complete them asap. For example, I clear my junk emails 3 times a day, one early morning when I turn on my computer while other programs are still loading, one in the afternoon when I come back from lunch and one in the evening just after I wrap up my work and getting ready to pack for home.

Quadrant II contains the hardest things to do. Why do I say that? Because those things are not urgent and you always have urgent matters in Quadrant I and III that you are very tempted to complete. However, things in Quadrant II are the most important activities that will make you the most money!

For me, I just make sure that I consistently work on the activities in Quadrant II. For example, whenever I have time, I’ll write an extra article for directory submission. Almost everyday when I drive, I’ll be strategizing in my mind. If you consistently work on the activities in Quadrant II, your income will inevitably increase in long run.

Give my revised Time Management Matrix a try. Plot this matrix into your MS Word and insert all your outstanding tasks accordingly. Once you plugin your tasks, it will be clear to you how you should spend your next few hours and next few days!

One of the hardest things in online marketing is probably to get your online business of the ground and let it run on autopilot.

Although I’ve done it before, it is still a big challenge for me whenever I start a new website.

Today, I’m going to show you how a new website put a simple twist to an old concept and achieve extraordinary results in less than 3 months.

The website that I’m talking about is Qassia.com.

Qassia is a new website started in January 2008. But today, it ranks 4,762 in Alexa ranking and has more than 4000 webpages listed in Google.

So what is Qassia?

Why are people crazy about it?

More importantly, what are the marketing mechanisms that are making people crazy about it?

Let’s see……

If I were to break down Qassia into its simplest form, Qassia is nothing more than a combination of an article directory and a link directory. (For newbies, some examples of article directories are ezinearticles.com and goarticles.com, and some examples of link directories are DMOZ and Yahoo!Directory.)

If you were to start another article directory or link directory, chances are you are going to fail because the idea is no longer novel and there are thousands of them out there.

Think about this: If you were to start an article directory, how are you going to find thousands of people to submit articles to your directory, especially when you are just starting.

But Qassia has done it. Qassia is hardly 3 months old, yet thousands of people are happily sending their unique articles to Qassia and eagerly promoting it to other online marketers.

The secret lies in its credit system.

Qassia positions itself as a free link directory that gives you unlimited one-way backlinks to your website for free. Why do webmasters like one-way backlinks? Well, backlinks are good for two reasons: 1) for direct traffic, and 2) for better search engine ranking.

The catch is in order to achieve better ranking for your backlinks, you will have to earn credits.

The more credits you earn, the higher your website ranks in their link directory, which translates to more web traffic to you (both direct traffic and search engine traffic).

See the twist in the system? That’s why people are working hard to submit articles to Qassia.

Similar to all other successful websites, Qassia also has a referral system. It’s the same old story. The more referrals you have, the more credits you earn and the higher your website ranks.

Does this concept work?

Check out its Alexa ranking. It’s moving up superbly fast. This means the website is receiving lots of traffic.

If you do a search on Google.com by typing in site:www.qassia.com, you can see that it already has more than 4000 pages ranked in the search engines. Most of these are articles submitted by its members.

Whether this system is sustainable or not is too early to conclude. But it is set for a great start and I believe there is a great deal we can learn from this website, especially its marketing strategies.

Most successful internet marketers started from scratch with little resources and were hardly known in the market until they become famous. If you are a beginner, it will be good for you to learn how some of these internet marketers started from scratch and how they had their lucky breaks in their online careers.

Today I’m going to show you how a renowned internet marketing guru started from scratch and how he had his breakthrough moment that changed everything and made him the world’s No 1 super affiliate, as what we all know today.

For those of you who are savvy internet marketers, you may think that these strategies are widely used in the market nowadays. But back in 2004, no one was doing such things!

Before I reply to his question, here are some assumptions I have made:

1) He is promoting an ebook, not a physical book

2) He is writing something related to internet marketing

First thing first……

If you want to promote your ebook in a big way, I mean really a big way, you must make sure that your ebook has some viral elements built in. For example, your ebook should come with an affiliate program so that the readers of your ebook can promote your ebook to other people.

That is the basic element your ebook must have. Or else it’s almost impossible to make it big!

Next……

You need to have lots of traffic to your website that sells the ebook.

Let’s skip all the standard textbook answers and jump directly to the only 2 traffic generation methods that will give you 80% of the results you want.

If you want LOTS of traffic FAST, there are only 2 methods. Either you advertise heavily or you find lots of JV partners. I can’t think of the 3rd method frankly.

Notes on advertising……

Advertising is expensive and in many cases, you may not be able to sell enough ebooks to earn back your advertising cost.

If so, why do I still ask you to advertise?

This is because if you have no resources at all, where else can you start?

I spent more than 10k in advertising to get myself off the ground in internet marketing several years back. I practice what I preach.

But before throwing all your hard earn cash into advertising, you must have the viral element in place. That’s why I said it is the first thing you must have right at the beginning of this article.

Even if you only make 20 sales through your own advertising effort, if your viral elements are in place, these 20 sales will grow into 100 sales and then 1000 sales and so on.

Notes on finding JV partners……

The second method to get lots of traffic fast is through JV partners.

Finding JV partners is usually free but it takes a lot of persistence and hard work.

If you are a newbie, you can forget about finding those top gurus to JV with you. They are not likely to reply your email unless you happen to attend their seminars and manage to rub shoulders with them during the seminars. Or you happen to know someone they trust and that someone is willing to introduce you to them. Or else, your chance of JVing with them is near zero.

But if you’ve purchased any work from an average marketer, you can try writing to them and asking them if they would be keen to do a joint promotion, i.e. you promote their work and they promote yours. Please don’t write to them and say “Hey, I wrote a new ebook. Would you like to promote it.” Most people wouldn’t until you do them a favor first.

Think of finding JV partners similar to digging a well. It takes time to build relationships before asking people to promote your product. Building relationship doesn’t has to be costly. It can be simple things like helping the marketer to write a sales letter for free or do some graphic design for free, depending on what skills you have. If you are starting from nothing, a wise thing to do now is to start offering your service free to some of the marketers out there to build relationship. What I’m saying is you should start digging your well. One day, when you need their help, they are more likely to remember you.

If you have not attended any seminar, purchased any product from anyone or helped any marketers in any way, the only thing you can do now is write to as many marketers as possible and hopefully a few of them are willing to help you. The chance is very slim but try. You are like begging people for water, since you do not have a well. But if you are thirsty and have no money to buy water (advertising in this case), what else can you do?

Similar to advertising, all you need is 10-20 JV partners who are willing to promote your ebook and with the viral elements in place, you will be able to multiply the initial traffic many times over.

Today I’m going to show you an extremely easy way to make extra money from your website.

In short, the trick is to sell links on your website.

Let me show you how I do it……

I have more than 50 content-based websites earning me thousands of dollars every month from Adsense. But some of these websites are not getting much traffic and they probably only make $10 a month. What can you do if you are in such a situation?

More than a year ago, I came across a service that allowed me to sell links on my websites. I thought since some of my websites are not making much money, why not sell links on these websites and make some extra money?

Initially, I was only thinking of making a few more dollars from each website, but it turned out that I was able to make $20 - $30 from each website every month. No bad for an extra income.

Who can sell links on their websites?

Your website must have at least a PR 1 in order for you to sell links. That’s not too hard isn’t it?

The price of each link varies according to the pagerank. Here’s a break down of the pricing:

PageRank (PR) 3 homepage $2 , subpage $1.50

I know the pricing doesn’t look attractive to you. That was what I thought initially. But you know what, for each of your webpage, they actually place as many as 10 links on each page!

Just do the maths yourself. It’s not hard to earn extra $20 - $30 from your website.

Things to consider before selling links

I need to WARN you that if your websites are getting good traffic from the search engines, you should not sell links on these websites, at least not on the homepage. This is because Google has announced that they will penalize websites that sell links. If you are caught, the pagerank of your website will be reduced.

Having said that, honestly, after selling text links on some of my low traffic websites for more than a year, I can confidently say that the PR of my website is not affected at all.

But it’s better to be safe than to be sorry. That’s why for me, I only sell links on websites that are not getting much traffic from the search engines.

Another type of website that I like to sell links are squeeze pages. Squeeze pages usually only have 3 - 5 pages and they typically don’t rank well in search engines. You can easily make extra $20 a month selling links on these pages.

$20 a month is not a lot of money. But if you have 10 - 20 of these websites, that’s a few thousand extra dollars every year, enough to cover one of my vacations.

I just came back from my meeting with Calvin Woon, an internet newbie who made $3311.40 in just 24 hours. I’m going to show you exactly how he did it.

Here’s a summary of how he did it……

The basic idea is he offered a software at Warrior Special Offer (aka WSO) and 100 marketers took up the offer. After some time, he offered a blow out sale (basically a software bundle) to these 100 marketers in his list and made $3311.40 in less than 24 hours.

Sounds simple? No quite because there are a few important factors that contributed to his success. Let me go through the details now:

WSO is a section in the famous Warrior Forum. Many internet marketing experts hang out there looking for cheap but good deals. To make the marketers interested in your offer, you really need to think of something unique. In Calvin’s case, he offered a viral software. To his amazement, many renowned internet marketers took up the offer. Now he has got internet marketing gurus in his list!

What is so special about his viral software? Why are the gurus interested in the software?

Basically, it is a keyword research software. The true power doesn’t lie in the software application but its viral feature. Within the software, he allows the marketers to rebrand 4 banner ads and 2 text ads into the software. And he allows the marketers to give away the software to whoever they like.

Can you see what is happening here?

Imagine you own this viral keyword research software. You rebrand the software with your banner ads and text ads and give this software away to other people. This software will be passed on to hundreds and then thousands of people. Your banner and text ads will be shown to these people every time they use the software. Can you see how viral this can be?

But that’s not all. When these people see the power of the software and want to buy the rebrandable version, which is sold for $37, you will make 100% commission i.e. $37!!

I hope you are starting to see the power of this viral software. That is the reason why other internet marketing gurus are interested in this special offer.

They bought the software, rebranded it with their banner and text ads and distributed it to their list, allowing their list to pass it to whoever they like! At the same time, they kept 100% of the sales of the rebrandable version.

Personally, I think this is a damn smart idea. How I wish I was the one who came out with this idea.

Back to how he made $3311.40.

WSO is a place for you to bait big fish. Once you get the big fish, you have to continue adding values to them. For Calvin, he continues to give his customers free software, just to thank them for taking up the offer. In the system, the pricing started at $37, but after every sale, the price will increase by 20 cents!

See the trick? Either you get it now or you pay a higher price later!

Guess what was the conversion rate for the offer? More than 50% of them bought the software bundle! The gurus were hooked.

Here’s an interesting side story. Calvin launched his blow out sales on the same day and at the same time when Ewen Chia (the world’s No.1 super affiliate) launched his super affiliate membership! Initially, he was worried if that would affect his sales. But guess what, when he launched his blow out sales on 1st December 12pm EST, he was amazed to see that the first sale was from Ewen!! LOL.

Calvin didn’t just stop at the blow out sales. Once the marketers took up the offer, they were offered an upsell package, which is an annual membership which allows them to get 1 brand new rebrandable viral software every month for a year!

Another 50% of them took up this upsell package.

So in total, he made $3311.40 in 24 hours. The entire campaign actually made him more than $10,000.
