When it comes to selecting the best hosting provider, it all comes down to the type of hosting you need. I was cheap when I first started out in the online hosting world. And by cheap, I mean really cheap. Of course, there is always a golden ratio of price versus performance, and when you are just starting out, you should ideally work for something that gets the job done initially, and you think to yourself, I'll just upgrade later on.

I can't even find parking for 99 cents, so it piqued my interest, and I just had to test out each part of it to see if it delivered on its promises.

Obviously, in Hostinger there are more expensive packages, and these are only this price when you get a 48-month subscription, with it being $2.99 a month when you renew it after the first purchase; however, that is still a low cost, even by my standards when my journey began. So, even though this hosting provider is only half as good as it claims to be, this is a great deal that should not be missed; as such, let us get started.

Keep in mind that Hostinger packages include a free domain name, so if this is your first website, you can always start with that package. For testing purpose I had bought shared hosting plan which comes with free domain when paid upfront for a year.

Additionally, Hostinger has its own website builder which is relatively new, but the possibility is that you are building your website in WordPress to begin with, for testing, I'll stick with WordPress for the time being. The good news is that your plans are varied, even if you are inexperienced, so give both options a try; who knows, Hostinger may have re-invented website building.

My journey with Hostinger is great so far as I have not experienced any downtime till now.

Speed and UPtime :

Typically, we expect web hosting providers to provide an average of 99.9 percent uptime over the course of a year. Hostinger has several months that are in the 99.8% area, and even as low as 99.04%, which has definitely lowered their average. However, a few months of 100% uptime saved their average.

You must weigh the price against your requirements. If you have a small personal website with little traffic, 10-14 hours of downtime a year will not kill you. If you have a business website, you will desire slightly higher charges.

As per my test, page loading times has been in the 300-400 ms area on average. Again, given the price, this is still pretty decent.

The industry average for page loading speed is closer to 900 ms, therefore Hostinger nearly halves that figure.

Hostinger wants to share their knowledge with you, so they provide complete knowledge base including:

  • General information
  • Guides
  • Tutorials
  • Video walkthroughs

What I like :

  • You get a free domain name and SSL with certain packages
  • It has a low-cost option starting at $0.99
  • You get a wide range of features for the cost
  • Free SSD drives come included on all shared hosting plans.
  • Servers are powered by LiteSpeed, PHP7, HTTP2, built in caching technology
  • All packages come with a free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate and Cloudflare CDN.
  • They offer a 30-day money-back guarantee.
  • They provide FREE SEO Toolkit.
  • They offer a range of hosting types; shared hosting, WordPress hosting, VPS hosting, and Minecraft hosting.
  • All plans except the Single Shared plan come with a free domain name.
  • Free website transfer, specialist team will migrate your website free of cost.
  • Excellent Email tools.
  • Superb knowledge base.

What I dislike :

  • Slower than the average response time for their support team
  • Average performance results when it comes to speed
  • Uptime that is not as reliable as the competition.

Final Verdict :

Hostinger is the ideal hosting provider for those who are just getting started and are on a tight budget. I wished for this level of service when I first started out, and from what I've seen, you're getting a lot for your money here. It has reasonable speeds and knowledgeable support staff. However, you may encounter some downtime, particularly if your website receives a high volume of traffic and your package is not up to the standard required.

This hosting provider, in my opinion, ought to be experienced by people who are genuinely concerned about their budget and expenses, and it serves as a perfect beginning point for people who are entering the world of online website hosting for the first time.

My Top Recommendations

My experience with the program so far

From the outset, my experience with Hostinger.com has been exceptional. As someone who has navigated through various web hosting services over the years, finding a platform that strikes the perfect balance between affordability, reliability, and user-friendliness has always been a top priority. Hostinger has managed to exceed my expectations in every aspect

What I Like

Ease of Use

One of the first things that stood out to me was how intuitive and user-friendly the Hostinger control panel is. Even for beginners, setting up a website is a breeze, thanks to their streamlined setup process and the availability of extensive guides and tutorials. The interface is clean, well-organized, and makes managing your website straightforward, regardless of your technical expertise.

Performance and Reliability

Hostinger promises impressive uptime and speed, and it certainly delivers. My website has experienced virtually no downtime since I've been with them, and the loading speeds have been consistently fast. This reliability has been crucial for maintaining the satisfaction of my website's visitors and improving my site's SEO ranking.

Customer Support

Another highlight of my experience with Hostinger has been their exceptional customer support. Their team is available 24/7, and every interaction I've had has been with someone who is not only knowledgeable but genuinely eager to help. Whether it was a technical query or a billing question, the response times were quick, and the solutions provided were effective and straightforward.

Value for Money

Lastly, the value for money that Hostinger offers is unbeatable. Their pricing is incredibly competitive, and they offer a wide range of plans that can suit any budget or requirement. Despite the low cost, the quality of service and the features provided feel premium. From free SSL certificates to daily backups, I've been pleasantly surprised by how much is included even in their most basic plans.

What I Dislike

While my overall experience with Hostinger.com has been overwhelmingly positive, no service is without its areas for improvement. In the spirit of a balanced review, here are a few aspects that I found less favorable or believe could be improved:

Limitations on the Lowest Tier Plans

Hostinger offers a variety of plans to cater to different needs and budgets, which is commendable. However, the most budget-friendly options come with certain limitations that might take time to be clear to a newcomer. For instance, the number of websites you can host, the availability of daily backups, and the allocation of resources like bandwidth and storage can be quite restrictive on the lowest-tier plans. While understandable from a pricing perspective, it would benefit users if these limitations were more prominently highlighted during the selection process.

Upselling Tactics

Although Hostinger provides great value for money, its upselling tactics can sometimes be aggressive. Upon signing up or throughout the management of your account, you might encounter frequent prompts to upgrade your plan or purchase additional services. While these offerings can be beneficial, the frequency and prominence of these suggestions can be somewhat off-putting, especially for users trying to stick to a strict budget or prefer a more minimalist approach to their web hosting needs.

Custom Control Panel

Hostinger uses a custom control panel, which, while user-friendly and well-designed, can be a double-edged sword. Users accustomed to industry-standard panels like cPanel might find the transition to Hostinger's proprietary control panel challenging. The difference in layout and functionality can require a learning curve, and for those who manage multiple hosting accounts across different services, this inconsistency can lead to inefficiencies.

Domain Registration Process

While Hostinger makes registering new domains through their platform easy, the process and pricing structure for domain registration and renewal can sometimes be confusing. The initial prices for domain registration are very competitive, but the renewal rates can be significantly higher. Additionally, certain promotional prices and discounts apply only to specific conditions, which might only be fully clear once you proceed with the purchase.

Final Verdict

Because of these areas of concern, it's important to note that no web hosting service is perfect, and the drawbacks mentioned above are relatively minor when compared to the overall quality and value provided by Hostinger. The company's strengths in performance, customer support, ease of use, and affordability far outweigh these limitations. With continuous improvements and a customer-focused approach, Hostinger remains a top choice for web hosting services.
