Hi there,

Thank you for the great article. While I know that it was put togeter a few years ago, the question and content are still relevant. I too have recently found myself contending with this question (Blog or Website). I purchased 2 great domain names recently, and have been working independendly to develop content. Right now, I've organized everything into various word documents and orgnanized folders.

My content is multi-spectral/omni-directional. I would however like to sell some "value-added" products, some of which will be via affiliation with reputable, established vendors/providers. I find myself continuing to develop even more content (artircles mostly), and it's starting to grow out of control. :D I really want to get this information online, but am being cautious, as I want my official "launch" to have a certain "wow" factor to it. While I know that it will continue to develop over time, I just need the next "best" step. The look and feel of the site/blog are important to me also.

I don't want it to look like someone stenciled it, or drew it with a broken crayon. You get my drift, I am sure. I've created a fantastic logo, prepared a pretty good "about us" page, thought of categories for the content, etc, etc. I am stuck on the arrangement of it all. I also purchased "Web Easy" through Avanquest, as it has really good ratings, was relatively inexpensive, and has a fairly easy to use interface. I welcome any thoughts and ideas, while I forge ahead. Thanks again!

I would say: start both. A website is for potential customers and a blog is more for networking and publicity.

I have always believed that blogs are easier for newbies to start and upkeep... but I have recently changed my mind and believe that definitely a static website is easier to maintain.

Please check out the FREE FOOD being given away on my link. Just in case.

Blogs are also websites, but with different functionality. I started out with a static website, and added a blog later. That was the usual way we all did it way back in th 90s. Later it became evident that RSS was capable of achieving a much bigger reach, finding different audiences. Now days, many new entrepreneurs begin with a Blog/Website Combination right from the beginning.

Wordpress blogs that are hosted on your domain can virtually eliminate the use of static pages, and in fact may be all you need. The Blog is the website in that case, especially for developing traffic to a niche product or group of products. WP is what most new affiliate marketing start ups are using. Another way is to combine a WP with a forum, in the same site.

I still use the static pages, and the blogs to direct traffic to them. If you do continue to use them, you have to integrate social media functionality in some form, and it can be simple. It does have to be updated often and I can tell ya, it is a hassle that way. Start with a functional WP blog/website, and be more modern than me!
